Step 1: Select certified materials (Variable)
GOTS organic cotton (apparel), rPET recycled polyester (sportswear), FSC paper (packaging), bamboo (drinkware), mycelium leather (premium portfolios).
Step 2: Verify certificates from supplier (1-2 working days)
Request OEKO-TEX 100, GOTS, FSC, GRS, BSCI/Sedex audit reports current within 24 months. PDF format, signed by certifying body.
Step 3: Calculate cradle-to-gate CO2 (3-5 working days)
Vendor provides Scope 1+2+3 GHG calculation per item. Compare to standard (non-eco) baseline. Eco kits typically 35-65% lower CO2.
Step 4: Use water-based or biodegradable inks (Variable)
Avoid plastisol (petroleum-based, non-biodegradable). Choose water-based silkscreen, sublimation (no solvents), or UV (no VOCs).
Step 5: Eliminate single-use plastic in packaging (Variable)
Replace plastic mailers with kraft padded envelopes (FSC-certified). Replace plastic windows in gift boxes with paper-clear PLA bio-plastic.
Step 6: Plan end-of-life (Variable)
Take-back program for unused inventory. Recyclable items only (verify with recycling code). Avoid mixed-material items that can't be sorted.
Step 7: Document with sustainability report (Variable)
Provide client with sustainability summary: certificates, CO2 calculation, end-of-life path. Useful for client's own ESG reporting.
